Back in 1997 & '98 the director of Project A-ko got together a bunch of guys that he worked with . . .
They decided to make the first anime with over 100 crotch-shots in the first episode,
(panty-covered, they did have some standards . . . just not really high ones),
The media said THEY WERE PERVERTS.
Well . . . that could be a possibility but the resulting anime was . . .
. . ..
actually fun to watch....
(That didn't come out right.)
Intellectually stimulating to watch . . . . .
(For some reason the line from Sammy Haggar's "One Way to Rock" comes to mind . . .
"To me it's all just mental masturbation" . . .
. . . I'm not helping am I?)
It was, up to that time, the most fanservice-filled anime that had ever been created . . .
. . . short of a hentai anime .....
Set in a world where most coastal cities are under water and a lot of people make their living salvaging things from underwater,
or basically salvaging the past.
IT was a pretty good action adventure flick . . . one in the genera of "What if 007 was a woman?"
Since then there have been a number of series in the same genera,
several like "Najica" by the same director, character designers and writers.
They got a different idea and they know enough to use it now and then.
AIKa has spawned two more shows that are basically PRE-quels.
(In fact those are where the wallpaper {AIKaZero} and the background {AIKa R-16:Virgin Missions} come from.
While the Pre-quels don't seem to be as good as the original, from my perspective, they are worth watching,
Especially if you like massive amounts of fleeting panty-shots....
The fans at ANN seem to be kind of luke-warm about these monuments to fanservice with mundane 5.5s and 6's.
Pervy-assed as I am . . . I'd give the original a solid 8 . . .
It has re-watch-ablity and the story is just bizarre enough to be interesting.
The Two Pre-quels well . . . I'm thinking with the ANN fans, about a 5 or 6.
